Classroom Liaison Program

What is it?

The Gavilan Peak 2024-2025 Classroom Liaison Program is an initiative of the Gavilan Peak PTO that aims to provide additional support to teachers and help GP families stay informed and involved throughout the school year. The Program will be managed by the PTO.

How will it work?

Parents/Guardians will fill out an interest form at the beginning of the school year. Up to 2 Classroom Liaisons will be selected for each teacher and will serve the entire school year. Liaisons will also be selected to support Specials teachers.

What will a Classroom Liaison do?

Responsibilities may include:

  • Sending home a letter with children to introduce liaisons and collect the names, emails and phone numbers of all the parents in the class who wish to share info on a class list. PTO will provide templates for liaisons to use.
  • Meeting with teacher at the beginning of the year to find out their goals for the year and ways the liaisons can support them. (i.e. classroom supplies, planning/researching field trips, support for projects or events.) PTO will provide suggested questions for liaisons to ask the their teacher meeting.
  • Touching-base with their teacher monthly to ask about depleted supplies and other needs. If there is a need, liaisons will create a sign up form to distribute to parents to help fulfill the request. PTO will provide resources on how to create an effective sign-up form.
  • Serving as a “go-to” information source for parents for details surrounding events and non-academic endeavors. This will alleviate time for teachers. PTO will provide support to liaisons for questions they need assistance answering.
  • Sending out reminders—via email, phone or notes that go home with the kids—about upcoming events, meetings, and needs for donations or volunteers.
  • Attending PTO meetings on a regular basis to share what’s happening in their classroom and stay up to date about school news and events.

Other important details

  • Classroom Liaisons must be DVUSD Volunteer Trained
  • Classroom Liasions are not guaranteed to always be selected for in-class volunteering or field-trip chaperoning when there are more willing volunteers than spots. They will be placed into the lottery with the other parents.
